Charity Link (registered charity no 1078271) has been working in Leicester for more than 140 years and now works throughout Leicester, Leicestershire, Rutland and Northamptonshire. It provides essential items for local people in need and currently supports over 5,000 local people each year and supplies over £800,000 worth of essential items. Charity Link aims to ensure that all local people have the basic essentials in life, no matter what crisis, illness, disability or difficulty they may be facing. The charity supports people of all ages, genders, backgrounds and ethnicities. Those helped by Charity Link include families struggling to make ends meet (with zero hour contracts and low paid work being a significant issue), those with a chronic illness or mental health issue, carers, the victims of domestic violence, those affected by a family breakdown, bereavement or redundancy and vulnerable elderly people.
Charity Link work’s on a very individual basis, providing the essential items most needed by that individual or family at the time to make their life a little brighter. This could be food, help with utilities, clothing (including school uniforms), mobility equipment; fridges, freezers, washing machines and cookers are commonly provided items which make a huge impact on improving quality of life for those in need. The Goods Depot is a new social enterprise which will now be supplying white goods directly to Charity Link clients.
